The 1848 Tricolour Celebration is a cultural and historical event, which commemorates the first unveiling of the Irish Tricolour flag
by Thomas Francis Meagher at 33 the Mall in Waterford city.
“The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between the “orange” and the “green” and I trust that beneath its folds, the hands of the Irish Protestant and the Irish Catholic may be clasped in generous and heroic brotherhood” - Thomas Francis Meagher
This year’s celebration will take place between the 4th and 6th of March 2016.
This will be a very special year and will be part of the 2016 Commemorations Programme.
There will be a month long schools programme running in advance of the 1848 Tricolour Celebration Weekend - see our Education Programme
